Urlaub an der AdriaDer 4,4 Millionen-Staat Kroatien liegt - bildlich gesprochen - direkt gegenüber Italien, an der nach Osten zugewandten Seite der Adria. Mit seiner fast 6000 Kilometer langen Uferlinie und dem an der Küste herrschenden mediterranen Klima ist das Land ein ideales Reiseziel für Erholungssuchende.
Im Landesinnerenm unweit der Grenze zu Slovenien, liegt die Hauptstadt Zagreb. Sie ist mit etwa 770.000 Einwohnern die größte Stadt des Landes. Kroatien besitzt zur Zeit acht Nationalparks. Der wohl schönste und bekannteste Nationalpark Kroatiens, die Plitvicer Seen , gehört zum UNESCO-Kulturerbe. Die 16 Seen sind durch Wasserfälle verbunden, die über Rauhwackebarrieren fließen. Urwaldähnliche Buchen- und Tannenwälder sind hier ebenso zu bestaunen wie zahlreiche Tierarten, z. B. der Braunbär. Für Touristen werden Besichtigungsfahrten in Spezialfahrzeugen und elektrisch betriebenen Schiffen angeboten.
